The Dialy Record

RUPERT SAYS HE'S WILD ABOUT HARRY'S NEW VOICE May 7 2002

HARRY POTTER star Rupert Grint has revealed how both he and co-star Daniel Radcliffe are growing up - their voices have broken.

He admitted: "My voice is a lot lower than it was in the last film."

Rupert, 13, who plays Ron Weasley in the film series, says that his own voice started changing at the start of shooting the latest movie, Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets.

He said: "It's strange. Dan's has broken completely. But they had decided that they were going to break it in the film anyway, so it hasn't been a problem with the producers."

Rupert will be joining all the other main cast members, including Daniel and Robbie Coltrane, tomorrow for the launch of The Philosopher's Stone on video and DVD.

The cast will appear on the Hogwarts train at Kings Cross Station, platform one, for the launch of the video and DVD on Saturday.

Rupert is back on screens this month in new kids' movie Thunderpants, in which he plays a young boffin Alan A. Allen. The movie features cameos from Leslie Phillips and Stephen Fry.

The young actor is becoming a big star, and is even receiving his own fan mail. He said: "I get lots of letters from girls and it feels really weird, but it's funny as well."

NYC Premiere Interview

Interviewer: I've talked with both Richard Harris and Robbie Coltrane and they said enjoy the moment. And that was their advice. Are you enjoying the moment?
Rupert: Yeah. Yeah it's so fun. I love doing these kind of things. They're really cool. Yeah, I'm a bit scared though.
I: What are you scared about?
R: Um, all the celebrities watching it, it's gonna be really scary, but, um, I'm looking forward to it.
I: Have you seen Robin Williams, have you seen him in his suit?
R: *smiles wide* I haven't seen him, no.
I: It looks like he's gone Hogwarts back to school shopping. He's the one in the green velvet!
R: Really?! *laughs*
I: Exciting that he's here though!
R: YEAH! It's gonna be cool!

Nickelodeon Interview

Rupert Grint: Ron Weasley
NICKELODEON MAGAZINE:What's your favorite thing about Ron?
RUPERT GRINT: He's really funny. And you also kind of fell sorry for him because he's always got hand-me-downs.
NM: What stunt did you enjoy doing?
RG: I was on a wire and dropped from really, really high up into the Devil's Snare. It was fun, so I liked it when we had to do more takes.
NM: If you could play someone else in the movie, who would it be?
RG: I like the sound of Malfoy. He's pretty nasty at times, and that would be quite fun. It would be cool to have the audience against me.
NM: How long did you go to school during filming?
RG: We had a tutor on the set. Whenever we weren't filming, we were in the classroom studying. We had to study a minimum of three hours and a maximum of five hours a day.
NM: What school subject are you good at?
RG: I like to draw. I drew a picture of Alan Rickman [who plays Severus Snape]. It was kind of amazing, but really ugly. Then I found out that he was right behind me, watching me draw this picture. He took it really well.
Ruperts Favorite... Harry Potter book:Number three, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban."I liked all the bits about Scabbers being an Animagus. And Ron gets an owl."

Character: Ron."Even before I got to play him in the film!"

Scene to film: The chess scene. "There were these great huge chess pieces, and I got to ride a really cool horse."

Interview with Emma Watson (CNN).

ZAHN: When you watched the movie for the first time, what did you think?
RUPERT GRINT, ACTOR: Scary seeing yourself that big, it really was.
EMMA WATSON, ACTRESS: The first time you watch, you're so freaked out about seeing yourself on screen. The second time you kind of enjoy it. And then the third time you kind of appreciate the film and the work that's gone into it, and you enjoy yourself. But the first time, I like, oh my God, I don't believe this.
ZAHN: There times in the film where you were required to do things that actually weren't happening at the time you were acting. How bizarre was that to see that on the screen, and see what it finally ended up looking like?
GRINT: It was really cool seeing that.
WATSON: Yes, it's hard work. You're kind of like talking to nothing, and it's really weird, but I suppose that's a part of acting.
ZAHN: When you had to be frightened of Fluffy (a three-headed dog), what were you actually looking at?
GRINT: Nothing.
ZAHN: How many times did you have to read the book to get the sense of what your character was supposed to do?
GRINT: Well, before I knew there was going to be a film. I was the biggest Harry Potter fan. I read all the books. Ron was always my favorite character, because I feel like I relate to him, like we've both got red hair, we both like sweets, we've both got lots of brothers and sisters. I've got one brother and three sisters, and both scared of spiders.
ZAHN: Give me a thumbnail sketch of who Hermione is.
WATSON: Hermione is a saucy teacher's pet who's obsessed with school, very mommy's girl. She's a bit of a nerd, but is very -- she's a real bookworm.
ZAHN: I know both of you have vivid imaginations, but when you saw the film for the first time, did you fully understand that that's what it would look like, or was some of the magic a surprise to you?
WATSON: I feel like they kind of cut a piece of my imagination out of my head and used it in the film, because it's exactly as I imagined it.
ZAHN: Now that you've practiced a little bit of magic, have you thought what you would do if you had the gift of being able to wave a wand and make something happen?
GRINT: I would probably be invisible so I can sneak (out of) detentions.
ZAHN: That's a good one.I know the film hasn't opened yet, but after this weekend, no matter where either two of you travel to, you are going to be recognized. Have you gotten used to that? Are people noticing you already?
WATSON: Yes.
GRINT: It's cool. I like it.
WATSON: It's kind of flattering to be asked to sign something.
ZAHN:
As you look back at this whirlwind you're caught up in, there is nothing that ever would have given you an indication your life is going to change this way, right? How much acting have you done before? GRINT: Just like school plays. Like one time I was a fish in Noah's Ark and now I'm in Harry Potter, a big step.
ZAHN: You must have been one heck of a fish.
GRINT: Yes.
ZAHN: Do you know how many kids you were up against to get the role of Hermione?
WATSON: Billions, trillion, millions, thousands -- I have no idea, but I'm sure it's a lot.
ZAHN: What did the author of the book say to you when she saw the movie for the first time?
WATSON: Really nice, because she liked it as well.
GRINT: Yes, she loved it.
WATSON: She really enjoyed it herself, and she thought it was exactly as she imagined it.
ZAHN: Emma and Rupert, two of my favorite new actors.
